ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Commerce
The minimum requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce Degree:
  • Aggregate C+ with a minimum of C in Mathematics and English OR
  • Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) qualification with a minimum of two subsidiary passes and a credit pass in Mathematics and English at KCE OR
  • IGCSE six A’s including Mathematics and English and GCE three A’s and one B in form 5 & 6 OR
  • IB grade 5 and above in English and a grade 4 and above in Mathematics;

Bachelor of Commerce Exempt Additional Entry Requirements
  • CPA (K) or CPS or ACCA

Annual Programme Start Dates
  • Fulltime Program – April and July and November
  • Evening Program – May and September

Prospective students who meet the minimum requirements must sit for and pass the Strathmore General Entrance Examination which consists of a written exam and oral interview. Interviews will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.00am, Madaraka Campus. In order to sit for the General Entrance Examination students will be required to bring:
  • 3 passport-size photos,
  • Originals and copies of academic and professional certificates,
  • a copy of national ID, Passport or Birth Certificate; and
  • An interview fee of Ksh. 1,500

Master of Commerce
The minimum requirements for the Master of Commerce Degree:
  • Holders of First Class (or GPA of 3.45 – 4) or Upper Second Class (or GPA of 2.85 – 3.44) degrees in Commerce or Business Studies from recognized universities; or
  • Holders of Lower Second Class degrees in Commerce or Business Studies or at least 2.5 G.P.A plus Postgraduate Diplomas or Certificates in relevant fields of study; or with at least two years working experience in a business or research environment.

Interviews and Entrance Examinations
Interviews will be conducted every Wednesday and Friday from 2pm. Prospective students are required to bring:
  • 2 passport-size photos,
  • Originals and copies of academic and professional certificates,
  • a copy of national ID, and
  • Kshs 2,000 interview fee

Duration and Start Dates
  • • MCOM runs for a period of 2 academic years.
  • • The program starts in May every year.

Diploma in Business Management
The minimum requirements for the Diploma in Business Management:
  • KCSE aggregate C+ with a minimum of C plain in Mathematics and English; or
  • Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) qualification with a minimum of two subsidiary passes and a credit pass in Mathematics and English at KCE; or
  • IGCSE six  A’s including Mathematics and English and GCE three A’s and one B in form 5 & 6; or
  • IB grade 5 and above in English and a grade 4 and above in Mathematics

Scholarships
The School of Management and Commerce provides limited scholarships to outstanding and needy students. Various scholarships are available and are granted through a competitive process.
  • East African Breweries Guinness Scholar Award: This scholarships are granted to ‘A’ students from needy families who demonstrate a commitment to maintaining an excellent performance throughout their career.
  • Strathmore University Scholarship: The School of Management and Commerce provides a limited number of Scholarships to top students who demonstrate commitment to upholding Strathmore ideals.

Since SMC has limited resources to provide scholarships to the many students who deserve, it tries to assist students get alternative sources of resources to finance their education such as a work study programmes.

The Strathmore University ideal is that no deserving student should fail to get a place in SMC owing to lack of financial means.

Student loans
In line with our mission and strategy the University has entered into partnership with Chase Bank to provide an improved loan facility accessible to all our degrees students both at the undergraduate and post graduate level. Students can also get financing from HELB.
