Dean SMC Awarded ‘Best Paper Award’ in Paris Conference

Just a week to being awarded his PhD at the Strathmore University Graduation, Dean Dr. David Wang’ombe added another feat to his list of achievements at the Clute Institute International Academic  Conference, where he was awarded Best Paper Award for his research paper titled, ‘The Influence of Stakeholder Identification on the Quality of Corporate Environmental Reporting in Kenya’

The paper, one of the 7  that Dr. Wang’ombe has researched and presented to meet requirements for  PhD qualification, not only elicited favourable reactions from among the conference participants but also from the 5 international judges tasked with the judging exercise responsibility for conference awards.  Three of Dr. Wang’ombe’s research papers have already been published as journal articles, while another 2 are in the pipeline for the same in varied journals.

Discussions of the paper

In this paper, Dr. Wang’ombe discusses factors that determine why some companies have better quality environmental reporting due to the identification of their stakeholders. He posits that factors such as power, legitimacy, urgency and salience indeed influence the quality of environmental reporting, and when ignored, the impact indeed affects the quality of reporting.
On his selection of this area of study, Dr. Wang’ombe shared that it is key for organisations to commit to achieving their objectives within the boundaries of social welfare. Organisations must necessarily care for sustainability of the environments in which they operate, hence Triple Bottom Line reporting - People, Profit and Place. (Place being environment).
We congratulate Dr. Wang’ombe for this achievement and wish him all the best in his research endeavours.
