BCOM Student Victor Otieno Wins at National Essay Writing Competition

2nd year Bachelor of Commerce student, Victor Otieno, was a proud winner at the recently concluded National Essay Writing Competition organized by Reality of Aid Africa and Junior Chamber International (JCI) – where Victor is a member.

Through invitation by JCI - a non-profit international non-governmental organization of young people between 18 and 40 years old with its members from about 124 countries, Victor was awarded for his article titled; The Role of the Youth in Promoting Accountability in Realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Competition’s theme worked at answering the major questions How Can Young People Strengthen Accountability in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals?

Victor was privileged to participate in this competition, not only because he won, but also because he was able to contribute his opinions that formed part of a collection of young people’s views towards the Second-High Level Meeting (HLM2) by the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) that took place between 28th November and 1st December.

The competition was open for all university students’ countrywide, engaging students to apply their research, analytical, and writing skills, and/or personal experiences to develop captivating articles on the role young people play as active development actors. Particularly, the articles were set to discuss how the principle of Accountability can be strengthened towards achieving SDGs

Due to his great involvement, Victor is currently working towards registering a JCI club at Strathmore University, to enable more students to participate in their work.

All the top ten ranked essays were awarded certificates for their good work.

Congratulations Victor on your great achievement.
