Dr. Hellen Otieno
Academic and Research Director
Dr. Otieno is a Senior Lecturer and Research Director in the School of Management and Commerce, Strathmore University. She has a B.Ed. (Hons) Degree from Kenyatta University; MA (Economics) Degree from Kenyatta University and a PhD in Entrepreneurship from Strathmore University. She has over a decade of university teaching. Prior to her career in university teaching, she taught in several high schools rising from an assistant teacher to Head of Department. In addition to her academic qualifications, Dr. Otieno is an alumnus of International Faculty Development Programme at Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa where she learnt Case Study Teaching, Learning and Writing. Dr. Otieno has distinguished herself as a lecturer. She has written and mentored the writing of several Case Studies. Case Studies bring a link between the theories taught in class and the practice in the industry. Dr. Otieno has also distinguished herself as academic researcher having presented papers at several international conferences. She has published several journal articles.

Dr. Otieno has participated in the development of a Masters of Commerce Curriculum and in the development and review of the School’s Strategic Plan. As part of her drive to achieve excellence in the practice of teaching, she did a Certificate in Lectureship at Strathmore University. Dr. Otieno is a member served in several committees in the university namely; Library Committee; Disciplinary Committee and Research and Development Committee. Currently she is a member of School of Management and Commerce’s (SMC) Executive Committee, Teaching and Learning Committee, Strathmore Graduate Studies (SGS) Board and the university Curriculum Committee. In each of these committees she has been instrumental in the drafting of policy guidelines for the running of these committees.
